Teachers! It Is Our Job To Do The WORK! No Matter How Uncomfortable!
Updated: Jan 30, 2021
I think that it is great that we all want to get along and believe in the freedom of speech, but are we not taught in teacher's college that it is our work to do the work? It is not always comfortable. Things have changed since many of us were in teacher's college. Are we not all lifelong learners committed to doing the work necessary to progress and support ALL of our students? I am beyond mind blown that people think that it is all of a sudden, a choice, in a profession that stresses objectivity, to teach or not teach about the realities we live in? I am in Canada, went to teacher's college in Buffalo. I cannot tell you how many people I have come across on social media that have told me that my opinion doesn't matter because I do not live in America. Please take the time to look at a variety of concepts to help your self grow and unlearn what you may be holding in your heart or psyche.

No one is telling you that you are racist when we talk about the need to take part in anti racist education, but if you get up in arms and get defensive, check those feelings and ask yourself WHY?!
PS a group of BIPOC educators and I started the following because we are tired of SURFACE! Feel free to join the conversation and share your thoughts. Please do more than surface work and ticking check marks so you feel better about yourself, this is bigger than you.
